Worker termites remain hidden inside wood or the earth. This termite resembles a grayish-white ant, except a subterranean termite has a thick waist and straight antennae. His job is to feed the colony; to do this he travels between the ground and wood through tubes.

Soldier termites remain hidden inside wood or the earth. This termite resembles the worker except it has a longer armored head with large jaws to ward off enemies. His job is to defend the colony, mainly against ants.

Young queen termites swarm to and from new colonies. They are brownish or black in color with a thick waist and 2 pairs of wings equal in length. Their only duty is to lay eggs.
